godimgood99 Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 does anyone know what this is as mine has gone up the spout ..ps hello everyone been away along time and glad to be back Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Its designed to make the power tranfer from the engine to the drive train smoother on high compression tdi engines, the clever bit is done by springs in between the two plates that damp out torsion frequencies that can damage the gearbox! dont ask me for any more in depth info as its all Greek to me  I understand that one of the causs of their failure is down to badly running engine which can cause frequency changes that the DMF is not tuned for and hence it works constantly and wears prematurely  also carrying or towing a load above the vehicles rateing can kill a DMF quicker as well! Guest alan Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 what were the symptoms of the flywheel failure please Quote
italiastar Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 I've just had a letter saying that there's a recall on my Alhambra to have the DMS flywheel replaced because of failure which can result in a fire occurring. Has anyone else recieved this - what will this work entail? and will my car ever be the same afterwards as a main dealer will have to carry out serous work by the sound of it? - I can't even trust these people to change the oil without 'ing it up. Guest alan Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Had mine fail, took to seat dealer in farnham surrey, got it back next day all fixed, dealer applied to seat for concession on repair, a week later received recall letter.mileage 122k. good service. eh 9 days for a replacement flywheel seems a bit much....seat expect it to take 5 hours according to recall letter. It would seem that galaxy owners are better off going to seat dealers for good service. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Only they will tell you can't work on it and to take it to Ford. VW are the same. Quote
Davetheref Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 I had mine done due to the recall and it really feels better running now. Didn't realise that my clutch was slipping a bit until it had been changed. Quote
sanjsanj Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 how can you tell if a clutch is slipping? Quote
Davetheref Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Whenever I put my foot down on the gas, I used to get a bit of high revving before it actually pulled away. Dont get that at all now. As soon as I put the gas on, instant response. Quote
Guest alan Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 seat dealership in farnham will work on other makes, family business do care about customers. I had a follow up call a week after the job was done to see if i was happy. with all the poor dealership reports on here its nice to find one that actually provides good service and sound advice without inventing work thats not there.
